02 / Services 06 specialisms · 3 engagement modes

What I
do, in practice.

Six specialisms, sharpened over 26 years inside the energy sector. Most engagements sit at the intersection of two or three. The point is always the same: a commercial answer customers choose, regulators approve, and the P&L rewards.

01

Commercial
strategy.

Growth thesis, margin mix and route-to-market for energy suppliers, platforms and services. The questions your board keeps circling — answered with rigour.

Retained Sprint

What's in scope

  • Growth thesis & segmentation
  • Portfolio & margin-mix design
  • Route-to-market and channel economics
  • Commercial operating model & team design
  • Board-level case & narrative

You should call when

  • The growth plan is detailed, defended, and quietly not believed
  • The board wants a sharper bet, smaller and clearer
  • You're entering a new segment and the unit economics are murky
02

Pricing &
tariff design.

My core specialism. Complex pricing products and tariff architecture — fixed, flexible energy trading, time-of-use, dynamic, EV, heat, and licence-exempt supply. Built to be sold, billed, defended and held over a multi-year horizon.

Specialism Sprint Operator

What's in scope

  • Tariff architecture & rationalisation
  • Dynamic, time-of-use & flex pricing design
  • EV and heat-pump tariffs
  • Risk pass-through structures
  • Bill design, comms & comparison-site logic
  • Pricing governance & review cadence

You should call when

  • The tariff book has grown unwieldy and nobody can explain why
  • A new dynamic or flex product needs to be built from zero
  • Margin is leaking and the model can't tell you where
03

Proposition
design.

From subscription energy-as-a-service to flexibility products and FCA-accredited finance-enabled offers — proposition design that earns its margin and works for the customer, the regulator and the front-line team that has to support it. End-to-end: customer insight, financial modelling, partner terms, billing logic and the operations team that has to ship it.

Sprint Operator

What's in scope

  • Subscription & energy-as-a-service design
  • Flexibility services & demand-side propositions
  • Finance-enabled offers (FCA-accredited partners)
  • Commercial & regulatory validation
  • Launch readiness, billing & operational design

You should call when

  • Three teams have three different views of what the proposition is
  • A subscription or EaaS proposition needs unit economics that hold
  • A new flex, EV or heat-services product has to launch without breaking the bill
04

Product &
platforms.

Senior product leadership for energy retailers, services businesses and energy-domain SaaS. Portfolio strategy, roadmap, pricing and team — built by someone who has done the job, not just advised it.

Advisory Retained

What's in scope

  • Portfolio strategy & product roadmap
  • Operating model, team design & governance
  • Pricing, packaging & commercial model
  • Proposition portfolio & lifecycle
  • Board, investor & exec narrative

You should call when

  • You need a senior product expert without the permanent headcount
  • The product function exists but isn't shipping at the pace the business needs
  • You're between Heads of Product or CPOs and the portfolio can't wait
  • You're a SaaS or platform founder selling into energy and need the buyer-side view
05

Partnerships &
channels.

Structuring partnerships that earn out — OEMs, intermediaries, white-label, B2B2C, aggregators. Commercial terms that hold up at scale and survive change of leadership at either side.

Sprint Retained

What's in scope

  • Partner thesis & sourcing
  • Commercial terms & revenue share
  • White-label & B2B2C structure
  • OEM & aggregator integration
  • Operating model & governance

You should call when

  • A partner deal is close to signing and the unit economics haven't been pressure-tested
  • White-label is being floated as a strategy without a P&L
  • An OEM relationship needs commercial teeth not just a slide deck
06

Regulation &
commercial.

Regulation is where the commercial edge usually hides. Most teams read it defensively — for what they can’t do. I read it for the moves others haven’t seen yet: licence-exempt supply propositions, embedded-benefit revenue, FCA-enabled finance models. The translation layer where new economics live.

Advisory Sprint

What's in scope

  • Reading regulatory change for commercial opportunity
  • Licence-exempt supply propositions
  • Embedded-benefit & FIT value unlocking
  • FCA pathways for energy-services finance
  • Ofgem / EU policy translation
  • Tariff & product impact assessment

You should call when

  • A regulatory pathway might enable a new proposition but no one’s modelled the commercial value
  • New rules just landed and commercial is being asked what changes
  • Strategy and policy teams are speaking different languages
03 / Engagement modes

Three ways
to work together.

Mode A

Sprint

2 – 6 weeks · Fixed scope

A specific commercial question, answered. Pricing redesign, proposition sprint, partner deal review. You get a decision and the artefacts to execute it — no extension required.

Mode B

Retained
Advisory

Quarter or more · Senior cadence

Embedded across your commercial leadership cadence. Board prep, pricing governance, proposition pipeline, partner reviews. The senior voice in the room when one’s missing.

Mode C

Operator

Programme-shaped · Embedded

Senior interim or fractional commercial leadership for a defined launch or repricing programme. Embedded with your team until it’s launched, billed and defended.
